I never cease to be amazed at how adaptable we humans really are.
Our lives have changed so much the past few days, but yet it feels like life has always been this way. We’ve got into our groove, he and I.
I don’t go to work, I go to hospital instead.
We spend a significant proportion of the day balancing on a hospital bed illicitly stocking up on a quota of cuddles which makes sleeping with a toy monkey almost bearable.
We drink bad hospital coffee and think it is good.
We have never seen so much of our friends, albeit by my husband’s hospital bed.
He sleeps and I watch him (just to check he’s breathing.)
I’m now the driver in the family, albeit of a wheelchair.
I give him fruit and he eats it (of his own volition!)
He watches TV while I read aloud out of the Stroke Manual (yes, that’s a thing.)
He listens to his doctors and I interrogate them.
He gets cared for by nurses and I feed them.
I plan his outfits and he wears them. (Best Dressed Patient of 2014 award coming his way!)
We laugh but we don’t cry.
That’s just how it is. It’s our new reality. For now anyway.
And in the meantime I’ll just…
So what’s new with you? How are you keeping calm this week?
