Well, what do you know? It’s the 10th of the month already. Of course, I’m joining in with this month’s Clever Cookie Photography Circle! For once, I’m playing by the rules and posting 10 photos that I took all on the same day. (Excuse me for a minute, while I stop and shine my halo!) Don’t forget, when you’ve finished checking out my Sydney snaps, be sure to bob on over and say g’day to my mate Steph and see what she’s been clicking on her camera.
Both my big girl camera and my iphone have been getting a very thorough workout of late and I had so many photos, I didn’t know which ones to choose for this month’s project. Decisions, decisions!
Finally I settled on the happy snaps I took when Lisa and I had a long overdue catch up at The Henry Deane Cocktail Lounge.
We so fancy, more to the point, it’s so fancy and the views are amazing. Unfortunately, on the night we’re there it’s way too busy for any serious camera action so we eat cheese and drink wine instead. As you do.
As if on cue, we conveniently finish the wine and cheese at magic hour and decide to go for a wee walk, check out the view and stack up some more steps. Because Fitbit! My arms are lengthily challenged so I delegate and let Lisa take this, because she has totally mastered the art of the selfie.
Mother Nature really starts to show off. Even Blues Point Tower which is sometimes described as one of the ugliest buildings in Sydney looks almost beautiful.
I never get bored of looking at the bridge from all it’s different angles and there’s nothing more relaxing than a bit of ferry spotting!
Then we get our first glimpse of the Opera House! This is my regular running route and I love seeing it in a different light (literally)!
And the photo opportunities keep on coming!
I can only find one padlock. It’s a very travelled one, though. From Australia to Finland with love.
I’m not such a great swimmer so life rings give me a sense of security but the spelling mistake on this one makes the English teacher in me feel all twitchy.
I think the Opera House always looks magic, but it looks super magic at magic hour. So magic, that it was picked as part of the Fab Four for the prompt “Weather” in #FMSPhotoADay over on Instagram. That’s a first! I still feel as warm and fuzzy seeing the Opera House now as I did when I first set eyes on it almost 14 years ago. This view will never get old. Ever.
The Gin Garden at the MCA is the place to be and love is in the air.
I love the light of magic hour. Especially when I have my camera close at hand.
In photography terms, magic hour is technically “the period before sunset when daylight is redder and softer and the sun is higher in the sky.”
In Sam terms though, Magic Hour is the time I spend with people, in places or doing things that make me happy, so in actual fact, there are many magic hours in every single day. It’s any time that fills life with love and light. Here’s to magic hours – may every hour be a magic one!
Now remember friends, the fun of the photography circle doesn’t stop here. Do pop on over and say g’day to Steph. Be sure to check out her fab photos, and then follow the circle to meet all the other fantastic photographers and see what they’ve been snapping. Enjoy the photo fest!
So tell me, imagine you and I go to a cocktail bar, what will you order? What’s your favourite way to spend a magic hour? Have you been to the Opera House, if so when was the first time you ever saw it?
