My life has been touched by some uber amazing women whose passion for life and the way they choose to live it have really inspired me. Some are bloggers, some are not, their lives are all different and they are all special. I feel honoured and privileged that they are sharing their stories and sprinkling a little bit of their awesome right here. May you be wom-inspired!
Meet Kristy Chong,
The women in this series are all special but all different, as are the ways in which I met them. Now you might be surprised to learn that I found Kristy through a pair of undies. Strange but true.
After Kristy’s own experience with experience with the common “taboo” of Light Bladder Leakage, she set about creating a beautiful and functional line of underwear that would allow women to feel attractive and confident and never fear an embarrassing mishap ever again, and that’s how Modibodi was born. I was kindly sent some Modibodi briefs to try for myself, and I’ve been giving them a run for their money, while I’ve been running all over town which let me tell you is a very sweaty business. I can totally vouch that these undies will not let you down. For Kristy, it’s a mission accomplished.
But Kristy is so much more than a pioneer of undies. She’s passionate about breaking down barriers in business, empowering the next generation of young women beyond Instagram and selfies, body image and breaking down taboos and common issues that women face (here’s looking at you periods and incontinence!)
Meet Kristy, she’s just so inspiring!
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m CEO and founder of Modibodi, a revolutionary women’s hightech underwear company that empowers women of all ages, shapes and sizes to live a better life. I’m also a mum on a mission, fashtech entrepreneur and social advocate for women’s health issues and rights.
With over 13 years in senior management Public Relations roles for multinational organisations including McDonald’s Australia, sanofiaventis and Edelman PR, I’ve worked with some of the most renowned brands in the business.
In 2011, I had the concept of launching my own business. Based on my personal experience and after the birth of my second child, I wanted to start my own brand that would revolutionise the way women wear underwear.
Over an 18 month period, we designed, developed and scientifically proved my patent pending Modifier Technology absorbent underpants and transformed this into the Modibodi collection, which now includes tops, singlets and moisture wicking underpants. In 2013, we launched Modibodi in Australia via an e-commerce model. Since its inception, Modibodi sales and brand awareness continues to grow at an exponential rate through strategic business planning, manufacturing development, product offering, marketing and public relations. Clientele from Australia, NewZealand, Canada, United States of America and United Kingdom have embraced this Aussie brand.
One of the core pillars of Modibodi is empowerment, empowering women no matter what their socio economic status, religion, issues or where in the world they live. Modibodi actively supports causes and organisations that champion the empowerment of women including Share the Dignity, Days for Girls, Endometriosis Australia to name just a few.
Tell us 3 things you are and 3 things you’re not.
I’m determined and driven
I believe in family
I believe in myself
I’m not overly methodical
Or dishonest
Complete this sentence, ____________________ changed my life. How and why?
Having children changed my life.
What has been your toughest obstacle and how have you overcome it?
To be honest the problems I face in work day to day, are not quite as challenging as trying to balance the overall workload generated by both a business and a family. I outsource cleaning and shop online, and work most week nights, so that I can have 1 day with my 2 year old and pick up the other two children early from school two days a week. But is a fine balancing act and the best way to manage it is just to accept it and to really focus on the journey, rather than the success, because life is about what’s happening right now.
What are your words to live by?
We have to learn to be our own best friends, because we fall too easily into the trap of being our own worst enemies.
If you could have any mentor, alive or dead, who would you choose and why?
My mother. She is extremely resilient, compassionate, and as a stage performer/singer has acted in some roles that I think most people would run with fear from. She is outspoken, but fair, she is willing to admit her flaws and faults, she has balance in her life physically and emotionally.
You give so much to others, what do you do to take care of yourself?
I’ve learned to take time to socialise and keep my mind and body active through Pilates.
Thank you for sharing, Kristy.
