My life has been touched by some uber amazing women whose passion for life and the way they choose to live it have really inspired me. A few years ago, I started the She’s So Inspiring series to showcase these amazing stories because I knew that they would inspire others. Some of these inspiring women are bloggers, some are not, their lives are all different and they are all incredibly special. I am so honoured that they are sharing their stories and sprinkling a little bit of their awesome right here. May you be wom-inspired!
Meet Brittany Noonan.
It must be true what they say about time flying by when you’re having fun, because I can’t believe it’s almost a year since I was hotfooting it down to Melbourne and bringing home a prize from the Bupa Blog Awards. My blog was nominated in the personal category with four inspiring (and totally awesome) women and it’s been a pleasure to introduce you to them all in this series – do you remember Natalie, Miss Chardy and Melissa? Well last but definitely by no means least, I want to introduce you to Brittany!
To be honest, getting this interview was turning out to be a race against time what with the award anniversary and more importantly, the impending arrival of Brittany’s baby girl fast approaching. But we did it! Brittany is a huge inspiration to so many, she shares her journey of motherhood openly, honestly and with humour and busts out fitness moves that I can only dream about. There’s no filters with Brittany, she shares her ups and her downs, her struggles and successes and uses those experiences to help, motivate and inspire others. Meet Brittany, she’s a dead set legend and she’s also very inspiring!
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi there, I’m Brittany.
I am a wife a mum to one little girl with another on the way who will be here in just a couple more months.
I am a pregnancy and postnatal fitness trainer and a blogger of all things motherhood, wellness, mental health and fitness.
Through sharing my journey through life’s ups and downs I hope to inspire others to get up and get moving, live an active life with out the pressures of looking a certain way and to help other mums feel less alone in their daily struggles.
My blog and Instagram is an open book where I am completely honest and open about my mental health battles , spreading body positive messages and of course having a laugh too.
Tell us 3 things you are and 3 things you’re not.
3 things I am – kind, open and passionate.
3 things I am not – on time, brave or good at public speaking.
Complete this sentence, ____________________ changed my life. How and why?
Motherhood changed my life. It has taught me what is truly important, true love, patience and given me a purpose to be the best possible woman I can be so that my children have a positive role model.
What has been life’s greatest lesson?
That I am more than my body. I spent a long, long time hating myself and treating my body and self with so much disrespect. Overcoming my eating disorder taught me that there are much more important things in life than my appearance and my body. What truly matters is the type of person and woman I am.
What is your biggest achievement?
My daughter – Milena. There is no greater achievement than parenthood.
What has been your toughest obstacle and how have you overcome it?
My eating disorder and mental health issues – anxiety , depression and antenatal depression. Through years of psychology, mindfulness practices, meditation and exercise I can now manage and cope with my mental health illness.
Viktor Frankl says “Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear with almost any ‘how.” Everyone needs a purpose, what’s yours?
My purpose is to be a strong woman so that my daughters have a positive role model in their lives. My purpose is to help them to grow up strong, independent, kind and full of self love. I would also say that my purpose is to help other women , particularly mums to overcome their own mental health issues and find happiness by inspiring them to live a healthy, active life and love themselves with out comparison to another. I find my happiness in helping others.
What are your words to live by?
“No rain, No flowers” is my favorite quote to live by because it reminds me that you must have downs to appreciate and receive the highs.
If you could have any mentor, alive or dead, who would you choose and why?
From a business/fitness perspective I love Kayla Itsines and what she has created through her fitness business. Otherwise my greatest mentor has been my psychologist who helped me become the woman I am today and for that I will be forever grateful.
If you could play hookie for a day what would be on your list to do?
Is it bad I had to google this? Haha!
At the moment I would escape to a day spa for a full day of pampering. Pregnancy has really taken its toll on me mentally and physically with never ending severe morning sickness (HG) combined with a very busy toddler and a whole heap of work so it would be nice to pamper myself.
You give so much to others, what do you do to take care of yourself?
Exercise has been my outlet for many years – it’s where I feel I escape and the way it makes me feel is always worth the effort.
Other things I do are meditation, yoga, mindfulness practices, spend time with friends and I love to take a warm bath or have a massage. Just simple little things that make me feel good physically and mentally.
Thank you for sharing, Brittany.
